February 26, 2021. It’s been a busy week and I’m going to end it by rewatching one of my fave K-Dramas — Crash Landing on You (a South Korean scripted series). The series is such an emotional see-saw of a story and so deliciously dramatic too.
Reasonably less dramatic, for the most part, usually… is phone-banking for a political candidate or cause that I believe in. Making calls to strangers is not my favorite thing honestly. Yet neither is seeing good candidates/causes lose elections because people of good conscience did not vote… ooph… makes my stomach churn!
So tomorrow morning I will wake up early and commence to phone-banking for Karen Carter Peterson. To be clear, I do not live in her district. I do not even live in her state. So I cannot myself vote for her. But the idea of sending this effective leader to the legislative branch of the United States government interests me immensely. Also, there’s sending this particular Black woman— who has such deep experience as a public servant and a world view that is worthy of pursuit too (environmental justice, women’s rights and equity etc. —to the U.S. House of Representatives is simply a no-brainer for me too.
I do hope the residents I will speak with are open to hearing our given talking points. I also welcome the hanger-up’er folks though. I understand them too :). Just saying: Who wants to talk to a stranger on their Saturday morning about voting? Yawn. I get it. But I am nevertheless fired up because we #winwithBlackwomen and we ALL win when we have a candidate in public service who carries our concerns into government spaces. So, let’s GO!
In the event of any foul-mouthed folks only picking up to pick a fight with a volunteer phone-banker (me, in this case) while mewling on about loving our country but actually pushing unloving agendas… Please y’all, I’m praying y’all put your phones on silent and pull those covers up nice and snug.
I’m otherwise happy to connect with any potential voter (from any political party) who is on the fence or otherwise unsure whom they plan to support. I’m so ready to hear their hearts and to also discuss the merits of #KCP with them. Let’s go Louisiana. You’ve got this. We’ve got this, together!
See you in the morning!
