Michele

Serious about self-care, snacks, and nonfiction storytelling.

Storytelling is my activism— infused with parabolic nuance that supports humanizing our “differences" and catalyzing resistance to otherwise normative white-body supremacy. Stories are my open road to positive social impact.

My work in documentary ranges in scale from the big-distro realm and the sweet indie-work realm to social media micro-doc spots, each speaking in their own unique creative voice:

High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America | Season 2 (Showrunner/Executive Producer) looks at the history of the American descendants of African slaves, through the food we eat and the stories we tell that transformed American culture. Awarded an NAACP Image Award and nominated for a James Beard Media Award 2024. [Netflix]

Flint Town (Co-Exec Producer/Story)— an original 8-part documentary series which looks at policing in America through the lens of the Flint MI Police Dept and the eyes of the people of Flint. [Netflix]

Party Girls: Exploring Politics Across America (Director/Exec Producer)— “party girls” as in political party —is an indie micro-docuseries amplifying the voices of six politically-incompatible first-time voters, all women of color, who embark on a road trip together as absolute strangers, in the lead up to the 2016 Presidential election. Every story will ALWAYS tell me what it wants to be and where it’s meant to be seen.

Overall, stories that explore big complicated ideas through a personal (sometimes playful) lens— as long as they are authentically-lived experiences —are my sweet spot.

I’m always #insearchofstory. I’m in search of it right now…
